Hi, so today for film and motion art, I would like to talk about the transition of animation in films from 2d to 2d. Although 2d animation is no totally out of the picture, because some films like the princess and the frogs still is being produced, 3d animation have been the weapon of choice for quite some time since Toy Story. Well of course you can get better quality in the rendering and do more ambitious shots easier in 3d, but some still prefer the feel of a 2d animation feature film like Beauty and the Beast and Tarzan. Although animation stated from paper, 3d animation has done away with the back breaking tasks of drawing and redrawing every frame and making it match. I think the artistry has changed though. What I mean is that methodology you have for producing a 2d film is different from a 3d one. For 3d films you would normally be more ambitious thus your story can have more dynamism. For 2d film is more like you work with a story that can be cost effective. Imagine having a scene where you have shrek fighting a fire breeding dragon, and having various cinematic angles. Well you can do that quite comfortably in 3d, but in 2d, the director would rather have it told in one camera angle instead of different perspective.
In conclusion I would think the score is currently tied, but in the near future I think 3d would be making 2d the thing of the past. Well I measure it by seeing how many Oscars have 2d and 3d films won. Well I think its about the same. And also 1 from each category have been nominated for a Best Pic award. Beauty and the Beast and UP.
